Thanks for your answer.
I forgot to include one important item. If the car is 25 years old or older all you need to do is fill out a few forms and prove that it has not been stolen via an INTERPOL database. So in the case of CX models up to 1986 would not be an issue.

Are you going to keep the USA headlight or are you going to fit EU units?

What a job, “federalizing” a Car. Brave man he was, Andre Pol. Het had a CXA on display at Citromobile: after all these years back home. Nice to see you are bringing your car back in good condition.

Andre Pol (with others) tried the same thing with the BX (19 GTi 16v MkI) but costs were enormous. Their efforts seized after the, limited, succes of the CXA adventure with which PSA (Citroën) had nothing to do. CXA officially was a brand therefore (CX AMerica).
CXA imported cars direct from the factory and started their work.
They literally took the cars apart and built them back together to american specification. Every detail had to be knowm and specified.
Probably the type of list Alan505 wrote about earlier is what CXA had to contend with.
At least one of the CXA BX’es drove along happily in NL for many years owned by one of the then investors, I spoke to him once some 5 years ago. Beautiful car, black with two-tone leather interior.

I have a pair of the factory EU lights that I am going to fit. I am also considering the Turbo style headlights. If I understand correctly there is a 3rd version of the light that offers yet another bulb.

I like those american-style headlights.
Twee linkerhanden is nog altijd beter dan één rechter en er niks mee doen.

Do you mean these?
The unit with the separate high-beam?

Hi Allen,
Great to read your story, I didn’t yet go through ALL your pictures but it looks like a very serious job.
You could probably trade your headlights for the type you want with somebody from around here, they’re well-sought after those CXA headlights. But wouldn’t you get into trouble with the MOT? Of course you could put the CXA things back for the MOT but how would that work for example with insurance in case of an accident?
greetings
Yke

@Léontien, I think that is what he means with the turbo-style headlights…. there is another version with an extra light in the headlamp itself, it is below the normal light, but I think that’s series 1. I cannot find a picture of it right now.

Yes, that is the one. (The series 1 light) Is the bulb an H4 or some other type? Is it supposed to function as a “city-light”?

That is very good to know, I may be open to trading them for a nice pair of turbo lights.
Most safety inspectors would not be aware that these are not DOT-approved lights, nor would they care. They are more interested in forcing you to buy windshield wipers (or should I say wiper in the case of the CX) before they pass your car.

the old series 1 light have the middle fixation of the housing below, instead of up. not very compatible to your series 2 front.
and, the old housing has an old bulb, with a P45t base. so a rgular H4 bulb won’t work.
there are adaptors though….here for example
the second bulb below (H2) is a second high beam, and not a city-light.
some very rare variants of CX lamps indeed have a city light (I saw one offered in Italy), as do some round “morettes”)
your round lamps inside have a metal housing, are susceptible to rust.
the regular series glass housing (foto above) was fitted to a lot of series 2, not only the Turbo.
you frequently run into those. they have more plastic, so won’t rust as fast.
