DS21IE
After getting my DS back form the garage I was very happy it was delightfully smooth BUT today i was tinkering as usual around the battery area as I removed the remote starter and replaced it with new one.
When I tried to restart it just spluttered and stopped immediately and one (just one) of the earth wires got very hot before I turned it off quickly.
I checked all around the starter button disconnecting it from the battery, everytime I retouched the terminal I kept hearing an audible click even though the ignition was off I disconnected both terminal and reconnected and bingo it was back to normal…
It did this before it went to the garage the same time I changed the battery for a new one I thought maybe the starter button which is why I changed it thinking it may be faulty but it obviously isnt and the same then it just cleared itself. I am a bit nervous though. Why did one of the small earth wire to body get hot and nearly melt? Is one of the relays sticking?
Is my battery too big for it, It is a 680 ampere 70ahr
Where do the 2 wires go on the remote starter button?
Thank you in advance for your great knowledge

With the remote starter button you mean the unit that is connected directly to the + terminal of the battery?

Yes thats correct. I changed this thinking it may be faulty in some way but it was the same. In fact changing it bought the problem back as it has been fine since the first time it happend

Then I have no idea. You have to find out what is drawing so much currect through the thin earth wire. Normally that happens when starting without the big earth lead….

Is there an earth strap from engine to body?
It seems funny that its only this small one that gets hot and nearly melts the other 2 go else where. Maybe I should try changing the battery to body one for something stronger (thicker) then again why does it only happen sometimes? it is infuriating

Suggestion of bogaard77 that there could be something wrong with this earth lead sounds very logical. Please doublecheck. Loosen, clean the contact surfaces and fix. If the contact surfaces are fouled or rusty just further tightening doesn’t allways help.

I take my hat off to you all Surprisedops:
So far so good I have started it 4 times over the day no problems. “After”
I dismantled everything from the battery,  cleaned terminals of 3 relays and the metalwork they were attached to replace the battery to body earth lead for something a bit bigger, even the regulator on the side of the battery dismantled and cleaned. The main earth to water pump removed cleaned and replaced and yes at the pump the terminal had corrosion so I cleaned the pump housing as it had aluminum fur on it and the terminal itself ground it clean and fitted it with a brass washer.
Thank you
