Does anyone know why this is like this, I know it would make cranking easier but I havent seen the same on any other Traction and would prefer to have the chrome blanking piece there instead.

Looks like somebody’s own adjustment. Never seen it before.
I had a posting from the french site to say it was an aftermarket thing to make it easier to guide the cranking handle and lessen the chances of damaging the grill in a kickback
