I hope that someone here can help me out. I have a AX 1.1 among the last models produced in ‘99 as the Proton Tiara in Malaysia.
Now i have a question regarding the brakes. Is it possible to use the wheel hub and brake calipers from a 205?
Would the driveshaft fitting be the same?
I want to do this because the wheel is only 3 studs. I want to it 4 stud wheels and ventilated discs in front and solid discs on the rear.
Thanks in advance. Please reply in english (doesn’t matter if it’s broken english) i can’t understand your language.

zijn vraag is of de wielophanging van een Peugeot 205 op zijn AX past.
hij wil graag de geventileerde remschijven monteren en de 4 gaats velgen.
daarnaast vraagt hij of de steekassen passen ivm de diameter en aantal splains.
mvgr wupke:die het niet weet/I don’t no..good luck.
Re: Help with AX braking system…
thanks for translating kreazy!
Maybe you want to ask this question also on the AX forum.
they should now this, because some of the AX drivers are very good in building overpowered AX car’s.
Here’s the URL of the forum :
Just copy your question and my translation there.
You should get an anwser in no time at all.
And keep in mind , it’s 10 AM in the morning right now…

Om precies te zijn vraagt hij of hij de wielnaaf (remschijf) en remklauwen kan gebruiken.

suspension struts
Instead of Peugeot 106 you could also go for the Citroen Saxo. Technically identical to the 106.

Thanks for all links and replies guys…
The problem that we have over here in Malaysia is that we didn’t get the saxo or the 106 here… if not for the cooperation between our national car manufacturer and citroen france, we’d never have gotten the AX aka Tiara here even.
I was hoping also to limit the amount of modification to the car. For example a straight-forward swap job.
they have to Maleisië special delivery’s.
by boat its the most cheap, but take’s at least 4 to 6 weeks sending.
by plane its expencive but take’s onley 3 day’s max.
if sending, by boat, all needs to be in a solid box, with fixed size’s beacause they use palletised systems for transport.
my gues is, that the sending wil be around 250 euro’s for 50 kg and size.

kakanox schreef:then the most important question is: is vonnig willing to go for it if it’ll cost him about 500 euro’s ex alloys?
:klunck OUCH! that’s MYR2000++ that effectively costs half my car!!!!!!!! and not to mention more than my monthly salary!!!!
It would be nice i some time soon i could get a few other parts together with it and perhaps rent a whole container for it. I have a ZX running and a ‘72 DS for restoration. And i need plenty of parts for that DS of mine to look pristine!
Thanks for the offer to send the parts though… i just might take you guys up on it at a later date. We have plenty of guys here modifying their AXes like crazy! I’ll check and see with the other guys… are half cuts a plenty in your country for citroens esp?
there are more car’s on the scrapheap than on your roads .
mvgr wupke:so yes more then enough parts of half cars available

hmmm… maybe not… but then again… i won’t know until i see your scrap yards will i?
there must be some guy’s here ,that have picture’s of them.
sorry i don’t have them :photo

kakanox schreef:btw, don’t you guys drive diesels over there?
>> I’ve got brake discs for a Peugeot 106 Diesel combined with AX Diesel calipers and 106 Rallye front struts.
The 106 Diesel discs are exactly identical to those of the Ph2 AX Diesel, but for the number of wheel bolts; the AX has 3, the 106 has 4
You might wanna try Peugeot 306 1.0/1.1/1.4/1.6 as well, since the 306 also has a 1.6-litre TU engine (TU5JP) and this engine & gearbox can also be fitted to the AX using AX GTI driveshafts.
The 1.0/1.1/1.4 engines are nearly identical to those in your AX! The 1.0 version was only produced for Africa though, I don’t think you’ll find them more then a handful..
kakanox,
diesels we have… but in terms of citroens and peugeots only for the ZX 1.9D, Xantia 1.9TD, Evasion 1.9TD and perhaps the 806 1.9TD. Otherwise… no other diesels from PSA.
306… only version that we have here is the 1.8.
the 1.0 engine is outta the question… i was thinking of later plugging in a 1.4 or a 1.6 into the car… but that’ll be a project that’s gotta wait. basically, this car is for fuel economy. i’ll get another unit later on for track days!!!
We’ve got plenty of AX/Tiaras being auctioned off at obscene prices… something like MYR300 onwards. Some with blown/overheated engines… which tends to happen very often here…
kakanox schreef:
Since it’s a lot hotter over there I’m not surprised you guys get even MORE blown engines then we do (I suppose we’re talking about a blown head gasket?).
Plugging a 1.6 in it is a good option, and as long as you drive it normally it’s equally or even more economical then you’re 1.1 is now
I used to drive a GT 1.6, and with normal use I was doing 14 kilometres to the litre, driving up to 3000 rpm. Since you’ve got all that torque you don’t have to go anywhere over 3000 when driving normally. When you do… it will ask you for some more gasoline But even on a trackday (Nordschleife), and blasting home with 170 km/h I didn’t use any more then 9 litres to the kilometer. Which is nice
normal days are about 30-32 degrees C. though we tend to have a higher failure rate of the rubber hoses. A lot of ppl here also neglect to change those until it’s too late… and yeah… i was referring to blown head gaskets…
my 1.1 carb is currently doing between 13-17km/l… as for doing 9km/l… my 1.9i ZX does that… though if you take into account blasting around on highways at around 180-190km/h then i do about 7km/l
but whatever it is… i need to solve this braking thingy first… now the rear drums are acting up… screeching a bit when i pull the handbrakes on the move… i hope to get the disc thingy done soon…
